Email Delivery
How to Prevent Emails From Going to Spam and Spoofing
Email deliverability can be a massive problem.
If you’re investing valuable time creating email marketing campaigns… but your emails are going into the spam folder… then it is likely that you have a MX record problem.
I’ve worked with experienced email marketers who had no idea that they need to setup DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records to ensure great email deliverability before they start sending email campaigns.
What the heck is that… I’m glad you asked.
- DKIM stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail
- SPF stands for Sender Policy Framework
- DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance
It’s Easy to Check to See if You Have This Problem
You can use this GoogleApps Tool to quickly check to see if you have any MX record problems, and if you properly setup your DKIM, SPF, and DMARC text records.
If you have not, then you’ll need to contact your domain name registrar for support.
Ask their support person how to find your your DKIM and SPF records? And then ask them if they can create a DNS text record for you?
If they can not create a DNS text record, then your web hosting provider will have to do it. So contact your web hosting support team and ask them to create a DNS text record for your DKIM and SPF.
Once you have done that, you’ve need to let it propagate for 48 or 72 hours… before you create a DMARC text record. DMARC helps prevent hackers and other attackers from spoofing your organization and domain name (which is a common problem).
Follow the same process and contact your domain name registrar or hosting company to add a DMARC text record (whomever’s server is responsible for sending your emails).
These 3 things will greatly improve your email deliverability, but they will also provide you with enhanced security and protection from hackers. Good luck! 👍
All the best,
Anthony
